What are the different types of jazz bands for hire in Melbourne?
You can choose from our professional jazz bands featuring musicians and singers, or perhaps one of our instrumental jazz groups.
How much does it cost to hire a jazz band for an event?
Jazz bands are more flexible in terms of pricing based on how many hours they are booked for. For example, a mid-week business function that requires a Jazz band for 3-hours, with a saxophone, guitar and double bass trio will cost around $1,800 - $2,000 + GST. And for events longer than 5 hours with larger audiences, a 4 or 5 piece jazz band will cost between $2,500 - $3,500 + GST.
Cocktail events that only require a jazz duo for an hour or two might be around the $1,300 - $1,500 + GST mark.
How far in advance should I book a jazz band for my event?
This will depend on your event and the time of year it’s in – but typically it’s best to book as far in advance as possible so you don’t miss out on your chosen artist!
For weddings it’s good to book 6-9 months in advance, and 1-3 months ahead for corporate events. Sometimes we can book a day prior if the band is available for last minute functions, but it’s always good to be prepared. Talk to our team today.
Do bands provide their own sound and lighting equipment?
Bands with a singer will supply their own vocal PA system (suiting events of up to 150 people), while instrumental bands without a singer will provide all necessary amplification.
For larger events, we recommend utilising the venue’s in-house AV technicians to achieve optimal sound quality. In the event that the venue does not have their own in-house team, we can help you source one of the AV teams we work with. These services are quoted separately.
What are the typical performance durations for bands at events?
Our bands typically perform up to 4 x 40 minute sets over 4-5 hours, and 3 x 45 minute sets for a 3-hour booking.
Can I hear samples of a band's music before hiring them for my event?
Certainly. Each of our artist has an individual profile page, where you can view or listen to samples of their performances. We also include a song list and a biography on each profile to give you an idea of what the band offers and how they sound.
Are jazz bands for hire willing to travel for events, and what additional costs may be involved?
Most bands are willing to travel up to around 3 hours out of Melbourne and the fees vary based on the distance from Melbourne and the additional time required.
For example, for a booking in the Yarra Valley or Mornington Peninsula (located 1 to 1.5 hours out of Melbourne), fees can range from $75 - $150 + GST per musician. These costs will be factored into the quote at the time of enquiry.
For longer distances over 2 hours from Melbourne, some bands will also require accommodation in the area of the event at the expense of the client. For events 2-3 hours out of Melbourne, the fees can range from $250 - $350 + GST per musician, plus accommodation if required by the band.
Bookings within metropolitan Melbourne do not incur travel fees. This is typically within 30 minutes or 50km of the CBD.
