Melbourne Wedding Band FAQs
Should I have a band or DJ at my wedding?
Having a live band or DJ at your wedding is the perfect way to add to celebrations and create beautiful memories. Whether it’s entertaining your guests at the reception, or setting a party vibe so everyone can dance the night away, our professional musicians will tailor a unique setlist to suit the mood you want to create.
What types of wedding bands are available for hire, and which genres do they specialise in?
At our boutique entertainment agency, we have a range of wedding bands for hire in Melbourne – from soul and funk, to jazz, pop, acoustic duos, and covers bands ready to play hit after hit. Whichever vibe you wish to set – from intimate acoustics and elegant, sophisticated jazz and swing, to more of a party vibe – our versatile musicians are up for the task.
How far in advance should I book a wedding band for my big day?
Most wedding clients tend to book 6-9 months in advance. Obviously there are exceptions and some will wait much closer to the date, while others book over a year in advance.
Can I request specific songs or a custom setlist for the wedding band to perform at my celebration?
Of course! At Blue Avenue, our bands are dedicated to helping you have the perfect day with the wedding of your dreams. We’ll work with you to build a unique setlist filled with the songs and styles you love.
How much should you pay for a band at a wedding?

As a rough guide, a band with 4 or 5 musicians will cost anywhere from $3,000 - $4,000 + GST for a standard 4 or 5 hour event. For larger bands, each additional musician will generally cost around $500 - $600 + GST. And DJs can vary from $1,300 - $2,000 + GST for a 5 hour booking.
If booking for a wedding reception, we also have acoustic duos who can perform for the ceremony. Generally this will cost an additional $400 - $600 + GST on top of a reception booking. For a 4 or 5 hour event, the acoustic duo will be around $2,000 - $2,500 + GST.
Speak to us today for a more personalised quote based on your venue and location.
Do wedding bands provide their own sound and lighting equipment, or do I need to arrange it separately?
Our professional musicians supply all sound and lighting equipment, so you can focus on what matters – which is enjoying the big day. We’re here to provide a seamless, stress-free experience – our team will come in and set up, then pack up, all equipment in the most fuss-free way.
Can wedding bands also act as MCs or provide DJ services during their breaks or after their performance?
Many of our bands have a member that will perform basic MC duties that cover all of the announcements on the night and keep things running on track. Most charge around $300 - $500 + GST for this service.
We do recommend a family member or friend perform these duties to add a personal touch, however if that is not an option and you don’t want to engage a professional MC, the band option is a good middle ground.
